Now that you've created positions and shifts, you've got some vacancies on your hands that will need to be filled. To do that, we're going to start by going to the project you want to start editing and look at the Positions section. Select the position you want to work on to expand it (Registration / Set-Up is expanded in the image below).

With it open, you can see more details for that shift as well as options that are now available for you. the '0/1' shown in the example indicates that the organizer wants one person for that position but has none confirmed yet. We're going to take care of that now. Select Assign Volunteers to get started.

NOTE: If you don't see all the options shown, it probably means you have not created any shifts for the position yet. Read "Creating a Shift" for more help on that step.

You will now be brought to the Scheduler page for this project, which has two main sections:

1) Shifts - This is the list of all positions (vacant and filled) that relate to the position you've selected.

2) The Volunteer Roster - These are your available volunteers.

You can expand each Shift for the Position to see status of each slot by clicking on the shift.

To assign a person to a shift, simply click and drag them from the roster and release them in the desired slot. You are free to move your volunteers around as much as you like at this point because they've not been notified yet

HELPFUL HINT: If you want to take someone off of a list, select them and click Remove, in the Volunteer Actions menu.

Once you are happy with the people you've assigned into a shift,  you can notify them of their shift assignments. Select them one at a time or the entire group and click Send Shift Notifications from the Volunteer Actions. When you've done this, a blue envelope icon will appear beside the volunteers, indicating that a notification has been sent to them.

Once the volunteer has confirmed, the icon will change to a green checkmark. This indicates that they've agreed to the shift you've assigned them to and you can count on their help.

And remember the Shift Reminders we set up for you when you created this project? Well, now they're already counting down the hours until they get sent to your team. You don't even have to think about it!
